For well over a year now I've had an online Signing Community at Meetup.com. Unfortunately TypePad and Meetup weren't compatible and I didn't have a way of directly connecting you to them.
During this past week I have started the process of switching my Signing Community from Meetup.com to BigTent.com. I am so excited about this.
I hope you will join me over to Big Tent. To do that, click on the following link to subscribe: https://www.bigtent.com/groups/sapjd. Once there, enter your name and email address on the right side. An invitation to join will be sent back to you right away.
When you receive the invitation, click on the link to register for the group. Please enter your Screen Name as your name underscore child's name. Ex. Jenna_Zander. If you have more than one child just add another underscore and then the other child's name.
FYI: In order to make sure our community is safe, membership is by approval only. Once you've completed the registration and filled out your profile, it then goes to me for approval. I'll do these as quickly as I can. Thank you in advance for your patience. :)
Once approved, please join a Sub-Group! The sub-groups are set up as a way for me to know what part of San Diego County everyone lives. This is crucial info for me to be able to have events in your area!
To join a sub-group, click on About, Sub-Groups. Click on Learn More next to the Sub-Group you'd like to join. Last, click on Request and Invitation.
If you have any question about any of this, please email me at SignsAtPlay@san.rr.com or call me at 858.964.8432.

Here's all about the WET part:
Our Thanksgiving this year started out pretty early. Zander and I, along with two friends, registered to do the Turkey Trot this year, which is Father Joe's Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk. I woke up 3 minutes before the alarm was set to go off and snuck out of bed while Zander and Daddy slept. Whew! I really wanted some time to myself to get ready for the day. Off I went to gather what we would need for the Turkey Trot - clothes, smoothie, water, wagon, race number, etc.
Just as I was walking down the hall to wake up Zander he came out of the bedroom with a great big smile and said, "Good Morning, Mommy!" He asked for GAH-WOK which is his word for Mama's Milk. He was easily distracted and ready to get dressed when I told him we were meeting our friends early this morning. Another Whew! We got out of the house ahead of schedule!
We met up with our friends and drove to Balboa Park. We got there with just enough time to put on our numbers, situate the wagon and then watch the runners GO!
The walk was 3 miles long and very invigorating. I had a great time even though it was raining. For the first mile I wore Zander in the Ergo Carrier while one of our friends pulled the wagon. It rained off and on.
After awhile Z wanted to pull the wagon. This is when we separated from our friends. They walked ahead while Z & I took turns pulling the wagon. Somewhere around the 2 mile marker I realized that we were soaked through! The rain had been coming down steady. Z shielded himself with the umbrella for a little while (would've been a cute picture) and then wouldn't hold it any more after that, so he got wetter than any of us.
About a half a mile later Z said he had to go potty, so wiped out his Potette and waited for him to do his business as people passing by smiled at us. Some reminded me that I was missing (another) photographic moment.
At this point I saw Z shivering and realized that we had to hurry. After much negotiation he rode in the back of the wagon with the dry side of the blanket on him eating cantaloupe and I huffed and puffed as fast as I could to catch up with our friends. We plowed through ankle deep puddles and went up and down sidewalks to avoid the river that was once Laurel Street Bridge.
Just as we were coming up to the finish people were giving us the thumb up sign, telling us that we're in the home stretch and keep up the great work. The announcer at the finish encouraged me on by saying, "Bring that wagon in, Mom! You're doing great!" If I read the clock accurately, it took us just over 1 hour and twenty minutes to carry, pull, and walk the 3 miles.
While Z and I were negotiating how we were going to find our friends and get to the car (he wanted to walk, I wanted him to stay in the wagon), one of our friends found us. She decided to carry him - Whew! She said that she and our other friend almost made it to the finish and then decided that since it was raining so hard that I probably quite early and was waiting for them at the car. They didn't finish! :(
As soon as we got to the car I started it up, turned on the heater and seat heaters. I stripped Z who's jacket was soaked through, his sweater was very wet, and his t-shirt was wet in places. I didn't have any other clothes for him in the car, so I grabbed a shirt from a bag of my clothes I've been meaning to take to a consignment shop. It was big, but did the trick!
Click here for more information on Father Joe's Thanksgiving Day 5k Run/Walk.
We dropped off our friends, called Daddy so he could have a fire ready for us and drove home.
Here's all about the DRY part:
The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing in front of the fire, playing cars with Zander and reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. My step-son, his girlfriend, his grandmother, his mother, and his mother's boyfriend all came over for a couple hours in the late afternoon. We were starving when they left, so Greg and I immediately started making the sides to our Torfurkey Feast that I already had in the oven.
Here's all about the Yummy part:
Do I hear you asking, "What in the world is a Tofurkey Feast?" :) It's an awesome Vegan Dinner that mimics a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The stuffed tofu roll is cooked with a sage dressing surrounded by potatoes, carrots, and onions. It also comes with gravy, cranberry dumplings and a tofu wishbone. I asked Greg to make his famous mashed potatoes. We also added cranberry sauce to the mix as well as another vegan gravy - can't have too much! Yum! Yum!
Click here for more info on the Tofurkey Feast.
Zander enjoyed an avocado and half a watermelon. Yum! Yum!
Zander was tired and went to sleep easily after our meal. Greg and I then watched a movie in front of the fire. Very nice!
Very nice day indeed!
I hope you all had a 'very nice' day as well!
